Roger Albert Clark Rally Documentary – Dan & Cyril Jones

A 5-Day Rally Documentary from South Wales to Scotland

The Roger Albert Clark Rally is widely regarded as one of the toughest rally events in the world — a five-day endurance challenge that pushes drivers, co-drivers, and cars to their absolute limits.

This documentary follows Dan and Cyril Jones as they take on that challenge, travelling from South Wales to Scotland, competing across some of the most demanding forest stages in the UK.

As a filmmaker, this project was about more than just motorsport coverage — it was about capturing a real story as it unfolded.

Capturing Real Motorsport, Not Just Highlights

Most rally content focuses on speed and results. This film takes a different approach.

Across five days, I documented the full journey — including:

  • The build-up and anticipation at the start

  • Long days moving between stages across the UK

  • The physical and mental fatigue that sets in

  • Mechanical pressures on both car and crew

  • The unpredictable nature of rallying at this level

The result is a character-driven motorsport documentary that shows what rallying is really like behind the scenes.

The Reality of the Roger Albert Clark Rally

The Roger Albert Clark Rally isn’t just about performance — it’s about endurance, adaptability, and resilience.

Crews face:

  • Constantly changing weather conditions

  • Night stages with limited visibility

  • Technical forest roads with no margin for error

  • Mechanical wear over hundreds of competitive miles

Over the course of the film, you see how quickly things can change — and how teams respond when they do.

That unpredictability is what makes rallying so compelling to film.

Filming in High-Pressure Environments

This project was shot using a dual-camera setup:

  • Canon C70 – for reliable, cinematic run-and-gun shooting

  • Canon R5C – for high-resolution detail and flexibility

Working across multiple locations in rapidly changing conditions meant staying mobile, efficient, and ready to capture moments as they happened.

There’s no reset in rallying — you either get the shot or you miss it.

A Documentary Built on Story

At its core, this film is about people.

Dan and Cyril’s journey reflects what makes grassroots and historic rallying so powerful — determination, teamwork, and the ability to keep going when things don’t go to plan.

That’s what I focus on in every project:
real moments, told properly.
